Adios Abuela!

Bye Grandma!

Emma's "abuela" left on Monday, and ever since then she's been looking and asking for her. It took Emma about 2 hours to learn how to say abuela once she got here, and about the same amount of time to warm up to her. She says abuela "abwah". They sure had a great time together!

A New Sport

Saturday, March 29, 2008

It seems that Emmanuel and I eventually accommodate ourselves to the sport of the area we live in, once we find one that doesn't cost that much to practice, of course. At BYU-I, we really got into racquetball. I played intramural racket to try and get better to beat Emmanuel, but I never did. Now I'm really excited because I have a fair chance at winning at our new sport. We started playing disc golf, which so so much fun and you can play if you can walk pretty much (great for first trimester preggos). They have a course at USAA, where Emmanuel works, and there were no people there today! It's like a private country club! Today we played for the first time and took Emma. She was so tired from walking that she just sat on the grass (she doesn't mind the grass now!) and watched while she could. She also went to bed pretty much right after we got home. We will be playing whenever it's not too hot or rainy! If you come visit us, we'll take you, too! It's like playing sophisticated frisbee :-) If you're still curious about what disc golf is, check this out.

By the way, funny story - Emmanuel's disc got stuck high up in a tree and I climbed it to shake it out! I haven't done that since I was a teenager. It was fun, and I'm kind of proud of myself that I got it out! Just because I have babies inside and out doesn't mean I can't climb trees (carefully)!

Happy Birthday to Emmanuel and Rosaura (his mom)!

On Monday, Emmanuel turned 26 and Emmanuel's mom turned 66. They share a birthday...isn't that neat? Also on Monday, my mom-in-law arrived from Mexico to surprise Emmanuel for his birthday. It didn't end up being a surprise, but she's been here ever since and we are all enjoying delicious Mexican dishes and a live-in playmate for Emma. Whenever Emma doesn't get what she wants from me, she goes crying to her "abuela" haha.

So I Made This Dress

Monday, March 24, 2008

I did a sewing project once when I was in high school, and I remember that I had to ask my mom for help at every step because I felt like the pattern was in a different language. Well, I guess college has taught me a few things, because after about 2 weeks working on this dress for Emma - little by little - I got it done! I am so excited that it came out the way I wanted it to. The one disappointment I do have is that I thought that if I sewed a dress for Emma from a pattern that it would teach me how to sew. I think I learned more about reading patterns than learning how to sew :-) I can totally understand why people who make homemade clothes sell them for so much though - like designers - I wouldn't accept a penny less than $50 for all the time that went into this one.

More pictures of my mini model wearing her dress to come soon.

Emma Gets a Gata!

Monday, March 17, 2008

So I've always thought that Build-A-Bear was a rip off, but we decided to take Emma inside just to "look". But then it was all over when we saw the gata of Emma's dreams. She screamed, "ga-taa!" and wanted to hold the kitty. So then we melted and got it for her. I guess it wasn't too bad seeing as a real cat can cost thousands. Oh, and for any of you looking for a great Easter present for your little one, they have the cutest flopsy-eared bunny I have ever seen! I think if you buy it naked it's like $18.

Grass Phobia No More!

Wednesday, March 12, 2008

Sorry to make you northerners jealous, but today was a perfect sunny 75, and it's so much fun now that Emma is walking! She loves to explore the great outdoors. It's so much more fun to go out now and just have Emma wander where she wants. She is very independent and only tolerates us holding her hand for a few minutes before she wants to venture out on her own. She is getting better with the grass, even though once today she stumbled down a little slope and landed on her back and just lied there because she was afraid of the grass. It took her about 5 minutes, and the encouragement of mom and dad walking away saying "adios" before she decided to get brave and get up. This is part of that episode:

Six Flags

Saturday, March 8, 2008

Saturday we went to Six Flags. They just opened, and last year we got a great deal on '08 season passes (even though they say I shouldn't even ride the kiddie rides now that I'm preggers). We wanted to take Emma because she can walk pretty good now and we thought she'd enjoy the wide open spaces and fun things to do. We all had a blast and got all tired out. We can't wait for the water park to open in May! We do need to get Emma some outdoor walking shoes though. I think she wore holes in her leather ones today :-)

Emma Eats Gata, Too!

Tuesday, March 4, 2008

(She is actually eating tilapia and mashed potatoes.) Aqui pregunto a Emma, "que comes, gata?" y luego, "no, no comes gata, comes pescado!" pero ella dice que no, que esta comiendo gata jaja. De verdad esta comiendo papas y pescado.
