Fijense en como dice "Rigo" jaja y tambien dice "Abuela" perfectamente!

Emilio

Monday, August 25, 2008

Emmanuel's old buddy Emilio has been in town a couple of times this month to stay with us. He lives in Mexico, so he decided to fly here from Rexburg and then take the bus down. It was fun for Emmanuel to talk soccer and guitars for a few days, and Emma absolutely loved him. I have never seen her be so verbal with a stranger before. She warmed up to him within an hour, and then you could not stop her from talking! It was cute. She probably recognizes with her spiritual baby doppler (haha) that he is a really good guy. Best of luck to you, Emilio! You are welcome anytime.

Terrible 2's and the Mexican Consulate

Saturday, August 23, 2008

Yesterday Emmanuel needed to renew his Mexican passport, and Emma and I decided to go (he did take the morning off from work, so we wanted to be with him!). Well, the process, start to finish, ended up keeping us downtown from about 10am to 2pm, with no nap break for Emma. If we'd known it was going to take so long, we would have planned differently...

Emma and I waited in the A/C inside the Mexican Consulate while Papi ran around the block getting cash, copies, etc. During this 45 min., Emma went through my whole purse, including snacks, books, camera, cell phone, wallet...until she was sick of it. Then, she proceeded to pushing the stroller around in circles around the waiting area. When she got sick of that, there was no choice but to let her roam. She found the staircase and we quietly starting climbing. When we got to the top, I noticed there were some guys in suits talking and it looked pretty professional, so I carried her to the bottom. She didn't mind this until the 3rd time. Then she started WAILING. At this point, I could do nothing to please her. At the same time, one lady (speaking Spanish) told me to keep her quiet because there was a meeting upstairs. Then, 1 minute later, another lady told me the same thing. I was thinking in my head, "Does it look like I am trying to make her cry? What do you want me and my huge belly to do?". So then, I got really embarrassed and fed up with Emma's now temper tantrum, strapped her in the stroller, and left. So some might say we got kicked out, some might say I chose to leave, but the way I see it, I had no choice but to leave.

After that, I was able to get my hands on some real bribe food, and Emma was happy. We had some rather enjoyable family time walking around downtown and playing in the fountains. She was super tired, but was activated by food and fun things to do. She slept 3 and a half hours when we got home.

I tell this story because it was the first time I honestly lost control of my toddler. I'd say this must be the start of the terrible 2's? She has been so much harder to please when she's not in perfect condition (well fed, no sleepies). It seems like all in the same week she learned how to spit, scream, and endure to put up a fight.

So if she starts this at one and a half, does that mean she'll end at two and a half? I want my sweet, easy to please, sits through root canals baby back! Haha. No, but at the same time, she is talking SO much, learning and repeating new words every minute she's awake, and she gives kisses and hugs and tells us she loves us. So, there are definetely trade-offs. This new crazy tantrum thing will surely pass :)

Laptop Broken Wed. - Sat.

Wed. night Emmanuel spilled a half glass of water on the laptop's keypad. Good thing he's a geek and was able to take the laptop apart and put it back together again several times to fix it and discover the problem. It's now Sat. evening and I'm typing on an external keyboard, but it's better than the Wii internet! I have to admit, it's been annoying not to be able to blog and email, but being so bored made me clean the house and start a new project :)

Sneaky, But Delicious?

Monday, August 18, 2008

So most parents, okay, moms, probably buy this book to sneak more veggies into their kids. I bought this book to trick myself into eating more veggies! Ha I really hope I'm not the only one. The thing is, if you grow up not eating your veggies, and you marry someone also picky about them, then your kids are basically doomed, right? So I'm trying to reverse our bad parent behaviors in hopes that our kids will love their veggies someday, through osmosis :)

The first recipe I made was blueberry lemon muffins. (After spending about 4 hours making purees and cleaning up.) They came out okay. Maybe I was silly making these 1st seeing as I grew up eating everything blueberry from Grandma's blueberry bushes and kitchen. I was bound to have high expectations. But, I made a ton of purees, so I'll keep at it this week at least! For tonight...chicken nuggets with broccoli puree!

My Buddy

Thursday, August 14, 2008

Emma and I have been the best of pals this week. Since all of our visits left, we've had to beat the long boring days without Papi and friends. We've been cooking together, going to the pool, reading new books, and working on words. Today Emma wanted to make macaroni and cheese. She nibbled a little hole in the top of the box and shook it upside down until all the pasta was on the kitchen floor. I couldn't stop her because she was having so much fun.

I hide books that require supervision. Board books are the only ones she can play with by herself because of some previous accidents (even some board books have been destroyed). Anyway, I got a few out today and yesterday and Emma has been fascinated by this Spanish-English picture dictionary. She sat with me almost an hour "reading" it. She's a language geek like her pap and I. She only has to be told once, and she remembers an object for days. She's also into story-telling when her Papi gets home. These are classic ones:

"Ot. Agua. Sheshee. Mami. Toot-toot. Pool."

"Ryah. (her buddy) Oso. Monkey. Ippo. Soo."

Try guessing in comments what each word is. I tried to write them just like she pronounces them :)

Wed. House Progress

Sorry if the house thing is getting boring for anyone, but it's all I'm thinking about!

Since it rained cats and dogs yesterday, this work was done today.

We now have a front and back door, stairs, and some windows!

Meem did a great job getting Emma to smile for pictures - we got some great shots! Thanks Sam for all your help! We love you!

Blog Book Making

Tuesday, August 5, 2008

Hey girls - some of you have asked me about the books I've been making from my blog posts. For those of you who are interested, I use www.blurb.com's free software and ordering service. You can make the books as small or large as you like starting at $12.95. I like the software because you can customize it just how you like it and they upload all of your pictures and text for you so it's very little work :)

Spidey

Monday, August 4, 2008

I think this photo pretty much sums up what Emma's been up to - anything up! She climbs on chairs, ottomans, beds, whatever she can get a good grip on. She's also said "i love you" once or twice in the past couple of weeks. I'm still not sure if she knows exactly what it means, but she is a good copycat! We love you Emma!
