San Marcos

Sunday, September 28, 2008

We've had company and and long weekend to visit with her. Her name is Kerena, and she's from Mexico City. Emmanuel knows her from his mission. She wanted to come to buy a bunch of clothes and sell them in Mexico. So, we went to the outlets in San Marcos. We were there all day Friday and half day Saturday. Friday was fun - and Emma did really well seeing as she wouldn't take a nap! Saturday I thought I was going to lose my uterus haha. But we all made it and had a good rest today. Did I mention that I LOVE Carter's?

Emma's stylish sunglasses - so mod.

Haha. Daisy duck hat lasted about 30 seconds. That's a problem with kid's Halloween costumes - not to mention way too hot for SA!

If you click on this picture, Emma looks like a baby supermodel - her hair is blowing in the wind.

Our Growing Entities :)

The baby:
I am 35 weeks this week, which marks 5 weeks to go. My due date is now Oct. 28. Our baby boy (still nameless) has been making a lot of progress on the inside, already locking himself in the head-down position now for 2 weeks. Even though this can be uncomfortable for me, I am really happy that some progress is being made before we get to the day he is born. That way things will hopefully go faster and be easier. We are still planning on having him in a birthing center with a midwife. I feel very peaceful inside when I think about it. I truly believe that this has been, and will continue to be, a challenge for my mind and spirit. We had an ultrasound last Friday and we got to see the baby's nose and mouth like it was a photograph! He looks JUST LIKE his Dad. At least in the snout :) We can't wait to meet him.

The house:
The house is nearing completion, and we can't believe it. The walls are painted, the doors and windows are up, the cabinets are in, and this week they will install the fixtures, the counter tops, and the flooring. Our closing date is Oct. 24. Yes, that puts 4 days between the house's "due date" and the baby's. It should be interesting. I should be worried - but I'm past that right now. I just feel very grateful and at peace that everything will work out. (This picture of the kitchen was taken on the 17th - it's the most recent I have)

Emma's 1st Pony Ride

Thursday, September 18, 2008

Emma and I participate in a playgroup with some other kids and moms from church each week. This week we went to Fiesta Farms, a petting zoo/pony ride/hay ride place. Emma just calls it "zoo". It was here that Emma got to go on her first pony ride. To be perfectly honest, she was more interested in the balls and the sandbox they had to play with rather than the animals. But at least we gave it a try once. As you can see from the look on her face, she was just like, "yeah, whatever, my mom wants me to do this" haha.

You've Got to See This

Thursday, September 11, 2008

Call it misplaced nesting, but I have been doing the most random projects around the apartment - yesterday's was cleaning the porch and the mats we have out there for Emma.

As you can see, this was just as fun for Emma as going to the zoo or park. Why is she naked? Ask her. I tried to strip her down to her diaper so she wouldn't get her clothes stained, but she refuses to keep her diaper on. It's all or nothing for this girl.

It's okay though, I think these are the funniest pictures I've gotten of her yet!

Daddy's Girl

Tuesday, September 9, 2008

Last night I asked Emmanuel if he could give Emma a bath so I could clean up dinner. I noticed after about 20 minutes that they had been in there quite a while without complaints, and I was impressed. Usually somebody loses patience, whether it be Emma getting water in her eyes or Emmanuel wanting to get back to Countdown with Keith Olberman. Anyway, I was wondering what was going on in there, so I went to peek at them. As I got closer to the door I heard Emma contently saying "washy" and "papi". This got me really interested. As I got closer to the bath, I saw Emmanuel sitting on the toilet, lid down, his legs in the bath tub and his shorts rolled up, and Emma pretending to give his legs a bath. Haha. I thought it was so cute. They were completely content playing bath together. I think they were in there together close to 40 mintues. Afterward, Emma was so calm and happy I think she would have stayed up playing independently until 10pm if we let her. It makes me so happy to see Emmanuel taking time out for Emma and getting creative with her.

Jaja. Me hizo reir mucho. Estaban contentos 40 minutos jugando en el bano. Me hace feliz que Emmanuel toma tiempo para sus ninos y comparta estos momentitos con Emma. Que chulos son.

The Brick is Up :)

Sunday, September 7, 2008

We've been at a little bit of a construction halt on the inside of the house because of a technicality with the City, but they were able to still work on the outside a little bit. They finished the brick on Friday, and they should be insulating and sheet rocking tomorrow and Tuesday. We will just be happy that things keep on moving for that Oct. 23 closing date! It makes me nervous to think of it being even a week late because of you know what...

Emma's World

Thursday, September 4, 2008

There has been a lot going on with Emma lately. So much that she's kept her mom from blogging for days :)

Her sentences so far:

1. "I got choo"
2. "Oh my gosh, shoes" haha this is a funny story, watch this video if you want a goofy laugh http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wCF3ywukQYA
3. "Bye bye Papi"
4. "Watch Elmo" (Can you tell she likes Elmo's World on Sesame Street?)
5. "I love you"
6. "Pants off"
7. "(I'm) ready" and "Lista"
8. "Lets go" and "Vamanos"
9. "Cargo" (Spanish for carry me)
10. "Open it"

I've been trying to keep track and write them down as they happen, but she's been talking so much I know I'm forgetting some. The fun thing is that Emma and I can have some very simple conversations. I'll ask her where she wants to go and she'll tell me to get ice cream haha. You can tell a lot about a kid by the sentences they say, huh?

So the other major progression is that Emma has officially started potty training. It all started about 4 months ago when I started to sit her on her potty before she got into the bathtub. Last week, each time she took a bath, she would sit down and actually pee. So that was a major hint to me that she has bladder control and to start other routines. She's still in diapers, but yesterday she went all morning (until her afternoon nap) dry because she went on the potty each time. She asks to go to the potty when she needs to go, and insists on getting completely naked haha. She's like a little time bomb running around naked haha it makes me nervous. I'm just worried about accidents on the furniture and stuff. I really don't want to buy Pull-Ups because I heard that kids think they're diapers anyway. Ha Emma thinks underwear are diapers (yep, found that one out the hard way.) So, if you come over to my house anytime soon, beware of a naked child running around :) Nah, the chances are low on that one. I usually get her dressed and back into a diaper after she's done on the potty. It's a pain because I dress and undress her like 20 times a day though. Anyway, maybe with more practice she'll be peeing in the potty consistently before baby #2 comes. I've heard poop is another milestone... Either way, I'm not getting my hopes up for a miracle and I'm just going to take it at her pace and along with my patience and schedule.
